EXTREME wrestling legend Rob Van Dam is set to return to the WWE.
Van Dam’s latest run with Vince McMahon’s company was announced during Payback and will see him work alongside former boss Paul Heyman once again.
The 42-year-old made his name in the hardcore world of ECW in the 1990s, where he is best remembered for feuds with Sabu and Jerry Lynn and a record-breaking reign as Television champion.
Van Dam, who was once a member of the WCW roster, then joined Heyman and many of his former extreme colleagues in WWE after ECW went out of business.
The highlight of his first spell with the sports entertainment firm was winning the WWE championship and reviving the long-dormant ECW world title in a memorable victory over John Cena at the ECW-themed One Night Stand PPV.
However, his run was overshadowed by the fact he had to surrender both titles after being arrested for possession of drugs.
After leaving WWE, Van Dam toured on the independent circuit and eventually found his home in TNA — where he enjoyed reigns as both world and X Division champion.
He resurfaces in his old home on July 14 and is widely expected to liven up the MITB match at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
