TNA Impact results and reactions from last night (June 14): It is what it is – Cageside Seats.

Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling brought its latest episode of Impact to Orlando, Florida, last night (Thurs., June 14, 2012) with a show that featured a trio of title matches and the introduction of this year’s Bound for Glory (BFG) Series.

Let’s get to reactions to the show:

  • I’ve come to realize that TNA, on its own, isn’t the complete piece of crap it’s so often made out to be. Sure, there are quite a few things it could improve on (that Impact Zone is a black hole), but it’s important not to compare it to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) or even Ring of Honor or Chikara. It is what it is and when you let it be that, it’s not half bad.
  • Hulk Hogan’s name and reputation isn’t anywhere close to what it once was but it was still sort of surreal to see him stand in the middle of the ring and put Austin Aries over so big as one of the best performers he’s ever seen. That said, there isn’t a chance in hell the Hulkster ever would have put Aries over in the same way if it was an actual match.
  • Having Devon defend the TV title every week is nice, I guess. Now if someone could teach Devon more moves than a shoulder block and diving headbutt, we’ll be in business.
  • Bully Ray is still the best. Joseph Park is great too but I’m dreading how this thing plays out, mostly because it means Abyss will come back for yet another run as the monster. I just don’t care to see that anymore. Ever.
  • The BFG Series is an awesome gimmick tournament. It’s easy to tell a story with and they can create about a million feuds out of it, no matter how they book it. That said, it feels a bit predictable this year because James Storm is winning and we know he’s winning and that’s that. If he doesn’t it would be an utter and complete abomination. But he will and he’ll go on to face Bobby Roode to win the title. This is one of those times where a spoiler isn’t a bad thing. I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
  • It would be nice if TNA learned what a Gauntlet match is and what an over the top rope battle royal is.
  • Bobby Roode feels like a legitimate star. It’s not even just because of the fact that he’s the longest reigning heavyweight champion in company history. It’s that he carries himself like a major star who deserves to have the belt, despite his being booked otherwise. Roode vs. Storm part two is going to be incredibly awesome.
  • I don’t even have any guesses on who the three masked men were who attacked Sting to close the show. Maybe Jeff Jarrett and a few cronies out to get revenge because Sting was the first Hall of Fame inductee instead of Jarrett? I don’t know. I’m over Sting at this point, so I’m not entirely interested in the big reveal.
  • Speaking of which, I’m awaiting the swerve when AJ Styles and Dixie Carter “come clean” next week. I’m sure they weren’t having an affair but doing something else altogether. Any guesses on what that swerve could be, Cagesiders?

Impact was solid last night, all things considered. I give the show a C+ and am actually not feeling so dreadful about covering the organization anymore. They’re making progress.
