Manny Pacquiao Loses To Timothy Bradley in Controversial Split Decision

Manny Pacquiao Loses To Timothy Bradley in Controversial Split Decision | Complex

It seems there were two people who watched last night’s Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley fight last night who thought that Bradley won the bout. The problem is, both of them were judges, and their decisions were enough to give the welterweight title match to Bradley.

It was another bizarre night for boxing. Most ringside observers thought that Pacquiao won the fight solidly, and many thought he dominated. ESPN.com marked the fight 119-109 for Pacquiao; HBO’s unofficial judge had the same score. Bob Arum, the promoter for both fighters, had it 118-110. CompuBox had Pacquiao winning 10 of the 12 rounds as well, landing more punches (253-159) at a better clip (34%-19%) with a decided advantage in power shots (190-108).

And yet judges C.J. Ross and Duane Ford called it 115-113 for Bradley (judge Jerry Roth had it 115-113 for Pacman). The result almost certainly means a rematch (Pacquiao had a rematch trigger in his contract, and the date is already set, November 10), and virtually assures that there will be no Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight this year—not that that was a sure thing by any means anyway.
