Mixed Martial Arts event card on display at Myrtle Beach’s Palace Theatre on Sunday

MYRTLE BEACH — Grand Strand LLC Warfare MMA on Sunday is putting on its fifth fight card in Myrtle Beach at the Palace Theatre at Broadway at the Beach.

The card has a debut fight and four championship tilts on the slate. The South Carolina International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) Interim Heavyweight Championship and the ISKA South East Regional 155-pound Championship will be on the line in co-main events.

Somner Martin and Nick Whesley will square off for the South East title, with the winner holding the title in six states. In the heavyweight bout, Joe Ray and Robert Smith will fight for the belt, which is vacant while defending champion Mike Barr recovers from an Achilles’ tendon tear.

Barr, who is from Myrtle Beach and fights with Fitness Edge MMA, will fight the winner of Sunday’s fight when he returns.

The SC ISKA 170-pound and SC ISKA 205-pound state championships also will be on the line. Local Cody Jones will square off with J.R. Rumley for the 170-pound crown and Derek Brown and John Vernon will compete for the 205-pound title.

Several other Grand Strand residents will be in action.

Myrtle Beach’s Chris Myers will open the card against Chris Scales. Fellow Myrtle Beach resident Moses Reyes will look to stay undefeated against Justin Sumter. Also, Myrtle Beach’s Cody Frye will take on Aubrey Rion and Georgetown’s Kreed Batem
